Marketing Yourself
Course Outline

WHO'S THIS FOR? If you have recently been made redundant, or are looking for a new job or even a new career direction, then this course will enable you to identify your personal strengths and choose appropriate ways to market these for job search success.  It will therefore be particularly useful for individuals who have recently had to consider a new job, or have been on a career break for personal reasons.  It would also be beneficial for graduates or school leavers who feel that the ‘Writing your first CV’ workshop would be too basic for them.
WHAT'S THE POINT?

According to recent research conducted by ‘Personal Career Management’ with UK recruitment agencies, 94% of CVs “do not make it through to the next stage of the recruitment process” (CIPD, March 2009).  This is either down to simple errors such as spelling or grammar, or a complete lack of focus in how candidates present themselves and their skills.  To enable you to get maximum return for your effort, it is important therefore to be clear about yourself, your abilities and how to tailor these to get the interviews you want.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME? In the workshop, you will gain a clearer insight into yourself and your strengths and areas for development.  Through the activities, you will be able to clearly define your long-term career aspirations, as well as identify specific next steps for your job-search. You will be able to identify your transferrable skills and apply some marketing principles in order to differentiate yourself from the rest of the field.  You will have the necessary tools to write a compelling CV and covering letter to dramatically improve your chances of getting to the next stage of the recruitment process.
